You wouldn’t know it to look at me, but i LOVE to eat. Whether its cheap fast food or a pricey night out, (when I can afford it), I love food. Even more than that, I love trying “new” things and unique cuisine that isn’t found everywhere.
I am in no way a “foodie,” nor do I have any professional culinary training. Can I cook? I’d like to think so — and I love trying — however, a chef I am not. So why then would anyone want to hear what I have to say?
Let me answer that by saying that I’m HUGE fan of shows like Top Chef — I’d eat anything they come up with — and “Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern,” and who doesn’t love “Good Eats” with Alton Brown?
The problem with those shows is that you’re getting a “foodie’s” opinion on a given type of food. You’re getting the experiences from their perhaps “more defined” or “well trained” palette. With me on the other hand, I’m here for those of us that don’t have the training, or perhaps wouldn’t know a “foie gras” from a “ceviche” (and while I do know what those are, I’ve rarely ever had the opportunity to eat such things).
I plan to give my impression of things from the perspective of “The Common Tongue” that the majority of us untrained, lesser traveled folks have. It’s a point of view that I think has been missing for quite some time now.
I’ve said many times, I’ll try anything once, (and that goes for food too *wink*). Again, I’ve not had the opportunity to try many exotic things, (Hey Mr. Zimmern, you reading this? Need a common man sidekick??), but I plan to whenever I can and when I do, you can bet I’m gonna talk about it. In the meantime, I’ll talk about anything “new” that I’ve tried or even just drone on about last nights warmed overs, but in any case I hope to provide the common man’s perspective on food.
With that said: “Let’s dig in!”
